DGZ Stork’s Nest 3.0 Accepting Applications!
One of the best ways a woman can ensure her health and the health of her baby during pregnancy is by receiving prenatal care. That’s why South Phoenix Healthy Start has partnered with the March of Dimes and the Delta Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated to provide the Phoenix Metropolitan Community with the Stork’s Nest – a national, incentive-based prenatal education program that helps keep pregnant women and their babies healthy while fighting infant mortality.
Participants receive points for classes they attend, as well as physician visits and healthy behaviors. Participants can then use those points to purchase baby items at the Stork’s Nest Boutique located at South Phoenix Healthy Start, including infant clothing, strollers, car seats, diapers, feeding supplies, portable cribs and first aid supplies. Women can continue to earn points after their babies are born by taking them to well baby check-ups and making sure they receive immunizations on time. Participants can use the points until their babies are one year old.
Any pregnant woman in the Phoenix Metro area is eligible to participate in Stork’s Nest, but the program’s emphasis is on engaging pregnant women who do not receive regular prenatal care and are at an elevated risk for having a low birth weight or premature birth – potential causes of infant mortality.

Thanks to the hard work and determination of its members for upwards of 5 years, the generous sponsorship of the March of Dimes and the enthusiastic encouragement of South Phoenix Healthy Start, the Delta Gamma Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. opened the doors to their very own Stork’s Nest on April 24, 2010. This dynamic partnership with South Phoenix Healthy Start has been established to increase prenatal care and education within the South Phoenix neighborhoods, by providing much needed baby and maternity items to expectant mothers who are at-risk for preterm births.The Delta Gamma Zeta Stork’s Nest will be used as an incentive and education program to help reduce preterm births by increasing prenatal care, healthy behavior, and participation in programs sponsored by South Phoenix Healthy Start.
The room was donated in-kind to the Delta Gamma Zeta Stork’s Nest Project by South Phoenix Healthy Start. All room renovations were completed by members of Delta Gamma Zeta Chapter. Incentive items were obtained by direct purchases made possible by a grant from the March of Dimes, donations from South Phoenix Healthy Start and the community, and our annual Bowling For Babies event.
