Our Chapter History
One hot Arizona day in 1952, five vivacious school teachers came together to form a new Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. chapter in Phoenix, Arizona. Soror Elizabeth Swain led the team of dedicated teachers to get Delta Gamma Zeta chartered. Many Sorors such as Mattie McKinley, Amanda Sullivan, Willie Mae Hamilton, Margaret Reeder, Eva Wright, Margaret Huff, and Chris Hood continued to uphold the principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly love and Finer womanhood.
The chapter has continued without interruption promoting growth and the ideals of the sorority, as well as providing countless hours of community service. Delta Gamma Zeta has been instrumental in chartering the undergraduate chapter Pi Xi and graduate chapter Omicron Zeta Zeta, both of Tucson, AZ, reactivating graduate chapter, Iota Gamma Zeta of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and on April 24, 2010 they launched their Stork’s Nest Program in partnership with South Phoenix Healthy Start.
Today, current membership is also made up of dynamic women who are professionals in the education, medical, finance, law, social work and IT fields.
